Both Vogue.com editor Chloe Malle and digital style director Leah Faye Cooper—neither of whose style can be described as print shy—are finding joy in summer’s classic patterns (polka dots! Stripes!) and vivid color palettes. Fashion writer Hannah Jackson plans to bring a sporty edge to her uniform of high-waist denim with so-wrong-they’re-right, Chloë Sevigny–approved sneakerinas. On the Vogue Shopping team, executive director Libby Page is going all in on tassels and Bermuda shorts, while senior editors Madeline Fass and I are embracing runway-approved craft with shell-adorned jewelry and mesh market totes that feel like collectible vacation treasures in their own right.
Summer is a state of mind, and the micro-trends below occupy that liminal space between easy city polish and dreamy holiday dressing. Why not allow them to inspire your own seasonal curation?
Market Totes
Summer isn’t summer without a playful shopper to bring a burst of effervescence to my uniform of creams and whites. An upcoming trip to Mexico City will make for the perfect excuse to pick up a dozen multicolored styles from the market; naturally, I’m already dreaming of meandering through the Lagunilla stalls with Chan Luu’s sequined-embellished tote in hand. —Talia Abbas, senior shopping editor
Flip-Flops
Somehow, flip-flops achieve both a carefree spirit and an impossibly chic one. The style is quintessentially summer; however, leather iterations and designer interpretations have catapulted the thong flat into so much more than just your beachgoing shoe. Fashion girls of all aesthetics have embraced the style for a few seasons now, starting with girls in Copenhagen rocking Havaianas with bouncy Cecilie Bahnsen dresses to this season’s controversial Dune flats from The Row. You’ll find that any pair looks just as effortless with an oversized suit as with a bikini and cover-up, with an endless assortment of options to choose from at any price. —Madeline Fass, senior shopping market editor
Jelly Flats
I finally figured out why jelly flats have women in a tizzy, buying them in droves and trying to convince others that it’s the perfect footwear choice: Camp! Summer camp and all the nostalgic, feel-good, warm-and-squishy memories that figuratively and literally came with wearing jelly flats during summer camp. When I put them on, I feel that same excitement, wonder, and unfussy ease. —Cortne Bonilla, senior shopping writer
Shells
Here’s another summer trend that has become a mainstay. Shell accents—seashell jewelry in particular—are one way to instantly turn simple warm-weather wear into full-on summer-ready ensembles. White sundresses and breezy caftans are the perfect backdrop for a dose of the sea. You can also find shells on swim from Sara Cristina and handbags from Simon Miller. The beachy treasures found themselves on the SS25 runways at Chloé, via earrings, belts, charms, and even crochet bags shaped like conchs. —M.F.
Tassels
Tassels are the texture of summer! But not as you know them. This is bohemian for the minimalist girl; think chic, monochromatic pendant necklaces, decorative pochettes perfect for summer evenings, and even caftans worn with loose, fluid pants. This will be me all summer long. —Libby Page, executive shopping director
Capris
Me and capris—an affair bound to happen. The controversial leg length favors petites (c’est moi), and I love them irreverently styled, preferably with a kitten heel flip-flop and sequined bag for a dressier take that nods to a summer-loving, carefree-looking Audrey on her bicycle but feels decidedly modern. These are for everywhere but my Sunday Pilates classes. Pedal to the metal! —T.A.
Bermuda Shorts
Summer at the office is not easy when you’re balancing icy A/C and outdoor heat. Bermudas are the perfect balance for both. I plan to style them with a kitten-heel flip-flop for leg-lengthening illusions! —L.P.
Stripes and Polka Dots
I’m just dotty over the spring polka-dots trend seen on the runways at Jacquemus and Valentino, as well as the stripes seen at Proenza Schouler. I love a summer frock with dots, ideally one that channels Julia Roberts in the famous divot-stomping scene in *Pretty Woman, and stripes are my summer uniform, from a classic Breton top to a crisp button-down shirt or dress. —Chloe Malle, editor, Vogue.com
Pastels
Usually, I don’t gravitate toward colors of any kind; that’s just not where my eye tends to travel. But with the latest crop of pale hues available on the market, I’m beginning to indulge—at least for the summertime. —C.B.
Colorful Sneakers
As much as I love wearing heels to work, by the weekend, my feet are begging me to be serious. So I find myself running around town in sneakers. Loewe and Miu Miu are among the designer brands that have rolled out some great colorful options in recent seasons, though there’ll always be room in my closet for an excellent pair of Nikes or Adidases. —Leah Faye Cooper, digital style director
Sneakerinas
Now that the sun is out again, I’m ready to break out some shoes that can log tens of thousands of steps per day. Enter the sneakerina, a sneaker ballet-flat Frankenshoe that everyone from Chloë Sevigny to Dua Lipa is rubber-stamping. Bad Bunny offered his take on the trend with a sleek Adidas collab, while brands from Louis Vuitton to Acne Studios have offered a luxury take on the summery shoe. There’s no shortage of ways to incorporate it into your wardrobe, from the pointe-shoe-esque lace-ups to lightweight slip-ons. —Hannah Jackson, fashion writer
