Cannes Portrait Gallery 2025: 'Mission: Impossible' Stars and More

The Cannes Film Festival is well underway, and some of the world’s biggest actors are in full glam for La Croisette.

“Mission: Impossible” stars Angela Bassett, Pom Klementieff, Hannah Waddingham and Hayley Atwell were among the stars photographed for Variety at Cannes. The cast of “Sirat,” the creative team behind “The Plague” and actors and writers from “A Pale View Of Hills” also visited the studio.

There has been a close eye on fashion at this year’s fest, given the new parameters dictated to celebs walking the carpet: Nudity and “excessively voluminous” clothing have officially been banned.

“This year, the Cannes Film Festival has made explicit in its charter certain rules that have long been in effect. The aim is not to regulate attire per se, but to prohibit full nudity on the red carpet, in accordance with the institutional framework of the event and French law,” the new instructions said.

Additionally, the festival “reserves the right to deny access to individuals whose attire could obstruct the movement of other guests or complicate seating arrangements in the screening rooms.”

Fashion historian Nancy Deihl told Variety‘s sister publication WWD that she thought modern trends inspired the decision.

“There’s a long history at Cannes of actresses wearing sexy styles, but always within the parameters decreed by high fashion,” she said. “The reality is that many runway shows display as much skin, if not more, than the recent styles that inspired the naked-dressing ban. But I feel the Cannes officials are really focused on setting the event apart from every other celebrity-focused spectacle, even if it makes them seem a bit dictatorial.”
