Celtics' Porzingis (illness) upgraded, comes off bench in Game 2

BOSTON — Kristaps Porzingis, who did not play in the second half of the Celtics‘ loss in Game 1 on Monday because of an illness, came off the bench to play in Game 2 of Boston’s Eastern Conference semifinal matchup with the New York Knicks.

Porzingis entered the game for Derrick White with 2 minutes, 39 seconds left in the first quarter. He was upgraded from probable to available about a half-hour before Wednesday night’s game.

Porzingis was 0-for-4 in 13 minutes of the first half in Game 1, with four rebounds and an assist.

Coach Joe Mazzulla said Porzingis has ongoing effects from an illness that sidelined him for a stretch of games late during the regular season.

Reserve Sam Hauser was ruled out for Wednesday’s game after spraining his ankle in the series opener. Hauser missed both of his shots in four minutes of action in Game 1.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
