PHOENIX — Reasons to celebrate have been hard to come by for the 2025 Rockies, but the club got a big one this weekend with the return of shortstop Ezequiel Tovar from the injured list.
Tovar was activated on Friday after missing 25 games, only four of them Rockies wins, and it didn’t take long for him to show everyone what they had been missing.
In his second game back, Tovar went 5-for-6 and hit his first home run of the season, falling a double shy of hitting for the first road cycle in franchise history as the Rockies outslugged the D-backs for a 14-12 victory, Warren Schaeffer’s first since taking over for Bud Black as manager on Sunday.
The Rockies (8-37) are still off to the worst 45-game start in the Modern Era (since 1900), but the wins will start to come if the offense can consistently put together nights like this.
