KCCI has named Andrew Altenbern its assistant news director.
Altenbern takes over for Natalie Cabieses, who was promoted to news director in March 2025.
He joins the Des Moines, Iowa CBS affiliate from Allen Media Group where he served as regional news director overseeing the newsrooms at KWWL in Waterloo, Iowa and WREX in Rockford, Illinois.
He started his career at KWWL and said his last position was “a full circle moment.”
“KCCI has a deep and rich history of high-quality coverage and content that has shaped the landscape of Iowa,” said Altenbern. “I feel privileged to be a part of the team.”
Altenbern is from Cedar Rapids, Iowa and is a University of Iowa graduate. His father served as news director at KGAN in Cedar Rapids more than three decades ago.
“Andrew’s deep ties to Iowa will allow him to jump in quickly and continue our mission to serve Central Iowa viewers,” said KCCI news director Natalie Cabieses.
