MSNBC’s New Schedule Has a Slow Start

MSNBC Experiences Drops in Primetime and Total Day

When looking at these networks’ performance during the same period a year ago (the week of May 6):

  • During primetime, Fox News increases of +22% in total viewers and +38% in the A25-54 demo. During total day, the network saw gains of +21% in total viewers and +29% in the demo.
  • MSNBC dropped -25% in total viewers and -34% in the demo. During total day, the network was down -35% in total viewers and -42% in the demo.
  •  In primetime, CNN decreased by -11% in total viewers and -14% in the demo. During total day, it dropped -25% in both total viewers and the demo.

PROGRAMMING:

Fox News held 14 out of the 15 spots of the most-watched cable news shows of the week in total viewers, with The Five (3.763 million viewers at 5 p.m. ET). MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show (1.722 million viewers at 9 p.m. ET) finished in the No. 13 position.

The Five (363,000 viewers at 5 p.m. ET) was also on top among the most-watched shows in the A25-54 demo. Once again, FNC occupied 14 out of the 15 top spots, with The Rachel Maddow Show (155,000 viewers at 9 p.m. ET) coming in at No. 15.
