Awards watch: NBC News’ Kristen Welker received a Matrix Award from New York Women In Communications (NYWICI) on Tuesday night. Former Matrix honoree and NBC News’ chief foreign affairs correspondent and chief Washington correspondent Andrea Mitchell presented Welker with her award. “The Meet the Press team and I have a few key goals every Sunday: to educate our audience, to hold those in power to account, and to have constructive conversations that people across the political spectrum can hear and learn from,” Welker said as she accepted her award.

Meanwhile, CBS News was the big winner at this year’s New York Press Club Journalism Awards. The network received eight awards, including recognition in the national political reporting category. Other winners were NBC News with five, ABC News with three, Bloomberg with two, Scripps News with two, and MSNBC and NBC News Now earning one award each and sharing an award in the national spot news category.
