Sheinelle Jones is feeling a deep sense of gratitude for the response she’s received to the heartbreaking news of husband Uche Ojeh’s death from cancer at age 45.
“Thank you, for all of your love and support. ❤️,” the “Today” show co-host, 47, wrote in a brief message via Instagram Friday morning alongside a segment her colleagues did in honor of her late husband.
Savannah Guthrie said through tears during the announcement, “With profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma.
“There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and her three young children. Uche was an incredible person, and we all loved him.”
The segment then featured a video montage of many life milestones Jones and Ojeh shared together, including when they met as young teens, got married in 2007 and welcomed their three kids.
“Today” weatherman Al Roker — who has had his own battle with cancer in the past — remembered Ojeh as a “private guy” who was “wickedly funny” and “humble.”
The touching tribute comes after Jones took an extended leave of absence from her job in late 2024.
Without giving too much detail at the time, she wrote last December, “I want to share that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter. “
She continued in the Instagram post at the time, “It’s not lost how lucky I am to have not only the support of my Today Show family, but to also have all of you.”
Her co-hosts then gave an additional update in January, telling “Access Hollywood” they were all “praying” for their beloved colleagued and noted that they were still in touch with her.
After Jones shared her post on Friday, she received even more support from friends and followers online.
Sherrie Shepherd wrote in a comment, “Sheinelle sending you love & prayers❤️” and entertainment reporter Nischelle Turner added, “Covering you and your family with prayer and healing energy. ❤️.”
