Multihit games, walk-off homers and scintillating pitching performances made for a busy Saturday around the Minors. Pittsburgh’s first-year pro Konnor Griffin continues to play beyond his years, vaulting up offensive leaderboards in his initial taste of Single-A. Meanwhile, Mets hurler Jonah Tong followed up a perfect outing with even more dominance, continuing a remarkable run of stellar mound work. All that and more from Saturday’s top prospect performers.
Konnor Griffin, SS/OF, Bradenton (PIT No. 2/MLB No. 37)
The Mississippi native’s torrid May continued with another three-hit performance, his fifth contest with three or more knocks in his last nine games. Griffin doubled, singled twice, drove in two runs, scored two runs and stole his 17th base in 21 attempts. The 19-year-old leads the Single-A Florida State League in hits (45), runs (34) and is tied for the lead in stolen bases, largely due to a .411/.433/.589 slash line this month. The hot stretch has boosted his average to a .324 and his OPS to .920. Gameday
Sebastian Walcott, SS/3B, Frisco (TEX No. 1/MLB No. 9)
The Rangers 19-year-old prospect is beginning to tap into his 65-grade power. Walcott cleared the fences just twice in his first 31 games for Double-A Frisco but has now gone deep three times in his previous five contests after his latest two-run jack. Despite being one of the youngest players in Double-A, Walcott has 13 extra-base hits and 20 walks for the RoughRiders. Gameday
JJ Wetherholt, SS, Springfield (STL No. 1/MLB No. 20)
Last year’s seventh overall Draft pick is having a strong campaign for Double-A Springfield, which is all the more impressive considering he skipped over High-A completely. Wetherholt’s power has yet to emerge consistently, but the West Virginia product picked a good time for his second tater of 2025, cracking a game-tying clout to cap off his ninth multihit performance in 26 games. The 22-year-old is slashing .298/.387/.426 with eight extra-base hits and 14 RBIs. Gameday
Jackson Ferris, LHP, Tulsa (LAD No. 5/MLB No. 63)
Ferris came through with one of his best starts of the season, twirling a season-high six innings and allowing one run and three hits. The 21-year-old struck out five during his 88-pitch outing and did not issue a walk for the first time in seven appearances (five starts). Ferris continues to rack up strikeouts, fanning 37 in 31 innings for Double-A Tulsa. Gameday
Kevin Alcántara, OF, Iowa (CHC No. 5/MLB No. 74)
Alcántara produced his second five-RBI game of the season and came within a triple of completing the cycle during his first three-hit game in two weeks. The 22-year-old drove in runs with each of his three hits, plating two apiece with his third roundtripper of the year and his single, while driving in another with a double. The long ball was Alcántara’s first since April 22. Gameday
Brady House, 3B, Rochester (WSH No. 3/MLB No. 95)
After an inconsistent 2024 campaign spent between Double-A and Triple-A, House appears to be back to his first-round form. The 21-year-old cleared the fences twice for his second multihomer game of the year and drove in three runs for Triple-A Rochester. House batted a career-low .241 last year but is off to a .288/.347/.506 start in 2025, which includes 18 extra-base hits, eight homers and 24 RBIs in 41 games. Gameday
Jonah Tong, RHP, Binghamton (NYM No. 6)
Tong came within an out of completing a seven-inning perfect game in his last start, and he followed that up by twirling six more scoreless frames. The 21-year-old struck out eight and yielded just two singles and two walks during his 94-pitch outing. Tong, who lowered his ERA to 2.12 and his WHIP to 1.00, has allowed two earned runs total over his past five starts while fanning 48 in 25 innings. Gameday
Ramon Ramirez, C, Columbia (KC No. 10)
Ramirez is making a strong impression for Single-A Columbia during his first season of affiliated competition. The 19-year-old catcher hammered a pair of homers, punctuating his performance with a walk-off jack in the 11th inning. It was the second straight game Ramirez went deep and increased his long ball total to eight to go along with 33 RBIs and an .893 OPS in 32 games. Gameday
Aroon Escobar, 2B/3B, Clearwater (PHI No. 13)
In the midst of a May slump, Escobar made sure his average wouldn’t dip below .300 for the first time this season. The 20-year-old led off the bottom of the first with his eighth homer and flirted with a cycle while collecting a career-high five hits for Single-A Clearwater. Escobar added an RBI double and three singles to his ledger and also scored three runs. The Venezuela native leads the Florida State League in average (.328) and OPS (1.002). Gameday
